Honest scope

I am not a ceramics historian, an appraiser or a dealer. What this site does is narrow and it is better stated plainly: I transcribe one nineteenth-century reference accurately, cite the page, show the scan, and keep the source's own uncertainty visible instead of flattening it into a confident answer.

That is useful because the reference is out of copyright, hard to search, and reproduces its marks as engravings no full-text search will ever find. It is not a substitute for an expert opinion on a specific object, and it is not offered as one.
