The BackstampPottery and porcelain marks, traced to the reference that records them.

Editorial policy

Sourcing

Entries are built from a named printed reference and cite the page. Where the source quotes an earlier authority, that chain is shown too, so a claim traced back through Chaffers to Gillingwater's History of Lowestoft (1790) is presented as exactly that, and not as first-hand observation.

Corrections

If a transcription here misreports the source, it is a defect and will be fixed. Every entry carries the page number and the scan so you can check it yourself.

Reuse of the plates

The engravings are reproductions of a public-domain work and no new copyright is claimed over them. Use them. A link back is welcome and not required.
